Georg Lausen received his Ph.D. (Dr. rer. pol.) in 1982, and his Habilitation (Angewandte Informatik) in 1985 from the University of Karlsruhe (TH). From 1986 to 1987 he has been associate professor for Information Technology and its Integration Problems at the Technical University of Darmstadt, from 1987 to 1994 professor for Databases and Information Systems at the University of Mannheim and since 1994 he is joining the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the University of Freiburg, where he is leading the research group on Databases and Information Systems. His research covers the areas of databases, information systems and XML-technologies. He is author of the textbook Datenbanken - Grundlagen und XML-Technologien Elsevier Spektrum Akademischer Verlag 2005. In 1999 he has received the "Test of Time" Award from ACM SIGMOD 1989 for the paper F-Logic: A Higher-Order Language for Reasoning about Objects, Inheritance, and Scheme. He has been granted a patent on XML in LDAP through the US Patent Office (US 6,901,410 B2) and a patent on Adaptive Query Evaluation Techniques by the German Patent Office (DE 101 57 996). |
